All the hiking trails in the San Gorgonio Wilderness are closed. I'm guessing the closure will end when they get the fire 100% contained. It's pretty insane the terrain the firefighters are having to work in -- this is right at the "Y" in the road where hwy 38 turns up to the left and the road to Forest Falls splits off to the right.

The Big Bear Grizzly is reporting that the Valley Fire may smolder "until heavy rains or snow arrive this fall." Sounds like hiking trails are going to be closed for a matter of months. The penalty for going on the trails is $5000 and 6 months in jail.

The fire is mostly contained, and it's now legal to hike some but not all of the trails in the San Gorgonio Wilderness:

Vivian and South Fork are legal, but you can't do stuff to the south and west, such as Momyer.

Thanks for the reports. There were so many fires since this one, I completely forgotten this one happened at all.

I know what you mean. I've been doing the same trail run over and over because it's the only one that's not on fire.
