Los Pinetos name history?

I was hiking at Elsmere Canyon in Newhall Pass and on the San Gabriels side of the pass is a undercrossing under I-15 called the Los Pinetos undercrossing. It shares a name with a nearby canyon and mountain. I noticed that while of course "Los" is Spanish, "Pinetos" is not in the...

Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

Yes I can ride my bike up Highway 39 and get passed by 40 cars but apparently sharing West Fork road with the occasional dump truck is a public safety hazard

Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

They posted two new PDFs on the ANF site but the PDFs are text only. The actual maps are only posted to Facebook. They really don't understand computers over there

Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

I tried to go up yesterday (Friday) and they had the road closed, and said they are doing sediment removal and don't want people on the road during the week. Turns out they issued a new closure order today that states the West Fork road is closed to the public during the week through December 2023, ...

Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

I heard from the ANF recreation field supervisor that "From what I’m hearing the areas within the Bobcat Closure will reopen when the closure expires, save for two small areas that will fall under new/extended closures."

Re: Rubio canyon

If anyone has a spare 1.5 million dollars that house that is blocking access will hopefully be listed again for sale soon... let's cross our fingers that the next owner removes all those fences and signs a legal easement for hikers. Interestingly the Camp Huntington access as well as the upper Pleas...

Re: Dispersed camping

Legally speaking the definition is simply "an area which has been improved or developed for recreation" https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO ... 319614.pdf . So I have a hard time understanding how they could enforce that language for sites like Kelly Camp which has obviously been impro...

Until they issue a document like this but for the bobcat fire https://www.fs.usda.gov/Internet/FSE_DO ... 780808.pdf everythings technically open. Might be the only window of opportunity to go into certain areas for a while. Edit they said on twitter they're releasing the map later today. Edi2: they...

Re: Bobcat Fire in West Fork

Screenshot_20200914_140939.png This is pretty remarkable... https://www.youtube.com/embed/SMCbbG9Ub_Y ...shows the fire almost reaching 643 Cloverleaf Dr in Monrovia but the firebreak held it, and after reviewing the nights footage from this camera it looks like the firebreak held. You can see the ...

Re: Bobcat Fire in West Fork

The google map uses GOES-17 which updates every 10 minutes, but googles derived map updates hourly. It's a geostationary satellite so it can monitor the whole west coast continuously (unlike the other infrared sensors VIIRS, Aqua and Terra on sun synchronous orbits which update once daily for us (ar...
