Disgusting!

These are Western Fence lizards. They're really common, but apparently only some of them have the cool blue, green spots. I saw this handsome fellow last month on the way to Strawberry Peak:

Anybody know anything about the spots? Are they supposed to attract the ladies?

All the lizards we saw around Rubio were very colorful. I've read that they change color due to temperature and to blend in with surroundings. The males have blue bellies and do push-ups to display them, apparently as a warning to stay away.

Does the "love" of tasty lizards count?

I discovered a Garter Snake eating a Blotched Lizard.

When he saw me coming, he slithered across the trail and hid next to some big rocks. I think he was worried that I might take it from him!

But I only love lizards as Friends...
