dudley heinsbergen here.... moved to tahoe in august and havent looked at this since.... i miss the santa ana winds blowing 90 mph on islip saddle this time of year, im miss the low country in the winter, and the 3 foot powder storms at baldy.. but i have good news tahoes hiking is incredible! haven...

i was on cucamonga peak last saturday morning and there was 1 patch of snow on the trail, and there wasnt even 5 feet of it, still easily passable to the side.

if there is snow on the 3 T's trail, its probably a 2 foot detour around it

mt zion should not be called a mountain. its a 10 foot hill on a ridge with its bushes whacked for helicopters

start in sequoia, take the High Sierra Trail to Whitney, and come back to sequoia thru colby pass, deadman canyon, elizabeth pass or silliman, back to lodgepole


its probably 130-155 miles, but that loop is the best ever!

this canyon isnt actually the middle fork of lytle creek. the middle fork comes from the the northwest at the "third creek crossing camp" the canyon to the south (with the 3 beautiful lower falls and the 2 upper, mossier falls, was unnamed, that is until i discovered it a couple years ago....

the snow level is at 5000 ft right now. tonight= 4000 ft (because of the instability of thunderstorms) by monday morning it actually might snow at 3000 ft! this cold low pressure one's moving thru, maybe light snowfall this is good...snow...finally. i'll either be ski the bowl or skiing mt baldy on ...

the only south-facing snow i saw yesterday was on the very tip top of Baldy and some little crack on Harwood.

lowest north facing i'd say is 7,500. last sunday it was about 6,900 on the north face near islip saddle, and it;s been a week soo...

looks like we shouldnt climb it due to the high probability of dislodging rocks landing on the road.
