Re: Bobcat Fire: closure info, what's open

Bobcat Fire closure order set to expire April 1. Anybody hear that the FS intends to extend it further? Being the good, law-abiding citizen that I am, I want to make sure I don't violate the order. That would cause me terrible distress. A call yesterday indicated that 04.01 remains good. The discus...

Oh how I know! I neglected to include a rather funny bit from a lizard crawling over the camera and the accompanying sound of its claws as it crawled about.

Re: Critter Cams - Suggestions?

I am back and, well, after a few attempts I did get some footage and suffice it to say - there's an art to using these. Here is a very short video that compiles some of my captures topped off with a very anti-climactic nano-second grab of a Mt. Lion. A very good friend that I did not know was also d...

LP trek May 1

Did some Los Padres trekking which involved a lot of bushwhacking. Highlights: Two mountain quail, several Western Tanagers and an unusual amount of Blainville's Horned Lizards. Image of the lizard: https://trouthugger.blogspot.com/2020/0 ... s-win.html
No snakes on this outing.

Re: A few SG fungi - April 14, 2020

very nice. You found a couple morels, or maybe you know that? They're pretty delish and highly sought after. Around what elevation and face was this? I think I can share the location without mis-representing myself as someone who cannot be trusted with special finds. The location was simply roadsid...

Re: Critter Cams - Suggestions?

Sean, Thank you for the reply. Since my post, I bought two (that's how cheap I went so I hear you!). I definitely wanted to get a feel for how they function. Funny thing is I bought two seemingly different brands but rather humorously, they seemed to be built almost identically and have very similar...

Re: Siberia Crk Trl? Camp Crk Trl? (near Big Bear Lake)

Is it crazy to respond. to something posted over 2 years ago? For starters, I'd love to know whether or not you ever made it out there to do this. Second, I have done it but it was years ago. If you plan to return the way you came ... hmmm ... actually, even if you plan to exit via another route, yo...

Re: Looking for mushrooms in the santa monicas

Cool post! Years ago I did some volunteer work in the Santa Monica mountains (during a wet period) and one of the other volunteers who was a serious So Cal forager, showed up with three grocery bags of chanterelles. Where he found them he would not say but they were from somewhere nearby under some ...

Critter Cams - Suggestions?

First off, I am guilty of being more of a lurker than participant but really hope to change that. I love the local mountains and am humbled by the wisdom shared on this forum. After some recent hikes I have found a few footprint hotspots and am wondering why I have not set up a camera to try and doc...

Re: Fox, Ringtail, and Cougar in Anza-Borrego

Fascinating post. I once stumbled upon a bighorn skull and, as you indicate, they can be heavy. 20 lbs does not seem like an exaggeration at all.
Thank you for sharing.
